11 Honors English Summer Reading Assignment
Dear prospective honors students, for your summer reading you are required to read the following texts:
by Ray Bradbury
In a dystopian future where books are burned by
"firemen," one firemen begins to question this
The Catcher in the Rye
by J.D. Salinger
A young man leaves his prep school and wanders
through New York City.
by Studs Terkel
A compelling, fascinating look at jobs and the people who do them. Consisting of over one hundred interviews conducted with everyone from gravediggers to studio heads, this book provides a timeless snapshot of people's feelings about their working lives, as well as a relevant and lasting look at how work fits into America life.
During the first week of your 11th grade English Honors English class, you will complete writing assessments on these works. You do not need to create a reading journal as you read the texts, but you may find it helpful. Sources like Sparknotes will not help you with the assessments or projects.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at: email@example.com. I will try respond to your email within three days. I am looking forward to our year together.
“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them.”
~ Mark Twain
